‘Careless Crime’ to vie at Dhaka filmfest

Iranian ‘Careless Crime’ is to vie at Dhaka Int’l filmfest in Bangladesh.

Iranian feature film ‘Careless Crime’ has been slated to be screened at the 2021 Dhaka International Film Festival (DIFF) in Bangladesh.

Directed by Shahram Mokri, the film will be among tiles to participate at the Asian Film Competition section of the Bangladeshi event’s 19th edition.

Going back to forty years ago, the movie’s story starts during the uprising to overthrow the Shah’s regime in Iran.

Then, protestors set fire to movie theaters as a way of showing opposition to Western culture and burned down many cinemas.

In one tragic case, a theater was set on fire with four hundred people inside and most of them were burned alive.

Now in contemporary Iran, after forty years, four individuals also decide to burn down a movie theater.

Being jointly produced by Negar Eskanadarfar and Karnameh Institute of Arts and Culture, the flick stars Babak Karimi, Razieh Mansouri and Abolfazl Kahani.

‘Careless Crime’ was premiered at the Orizzonti section of the 77th Venice Film Festival in Italy.

Ever since, the film has taken part in various global events, including the Sharjah Film Platform in the UAE, the MedFilm Festival in Italy and the Tokyo FILMex Int’l Film Festival in Japan.

Since 1977, the DIFF has been promoting a healthy culture in the film industry in Bangladesh with the main theme of ‘Better Film, Better Audience, Better Society’.

Some 200 films from 60 countries will compete at the DIFF in the following categories: Asian Competition Section, Retrospective, Bangladesh Panorama, Cinema of the World, Children’s Film, Short and Independent Film, Women Filmmakers Section, and Spiritual Films Section.

The 19th edition of the fest is slated for January 16-24 in Bangladesh.
